the shrugs are one of my favorite bands in the world... gordon bassett, paul tregilgas and geoff doube live in hamilton and have consitantly been making some of the best records (that not enough people have heard) to come out of new zealand in years, years and bloody years... the thing that i like about the shrugs you see (apart from them being very likable folks) is that they just get on with it... no bullshit... no waiting around for someone to give them money or to 'discover' them... they just go out and make great underground pop records... and with grasshopper city they have made another classic shrugs record... how to knit a pony, their last album was a pretty tough act to follow but with songs on this latest record like 'every time i look up' i struggle to understand why more people don't chase this band around between gigs in some sort of state of shrugsmania... the album is going great guns though on bandcamp.com so go there and download it... i am working on a video for them at the moment so i can't wait to get that out... in the meantime just go and seek them out...
